New Addition, Ronnie Alexander Collection

Spirit of Revolt are delighted to have the privilege of giving a home to this collection from a well known and loved activist/musician and wish to thank his partner Kathleen for this gift. We will box list this as quickly as possible, and hopefully it will soon appear on our catalogue.

A tribute to Ronnie from Celtic Music Radio:

We are very sad to announce the passing of our dear friend and member of the Clutha Folk Group – Ronnie Alexander  – on 17th November 2016.

His funeral was held at Maryhill Crematorium on Wednesday 23rd November 2016 The attendance was testament to Ronnie’s popularity and friendliness with so many people – with limited standing room only available at the service. Pipes were played outside to welcome guests by Tom Johnstone and at Ronnie’s request, “Flowers of the Forest” as he was carried in. Callum Allan paid tribute to Ronnie giving a brief history of his folk-singing career and Arthur Johnstone led “Freedom Come All Ye” and later “The Sour Milk Cairt”

As might be expected a session ensued at the Pond Hotel afterwards with many of Ronnie’s old friends playing including Erlend Voy, Callum Allan, and former Clutha piper, Jimmy Anderson. On Wednesday 30th November a radio tribute was paid to Ronnie on Gordon Hotchkiss’s program “Hotchpotch” Taking part were Callum Allan, Erlend Voy and Don Martin.

This will be available to listen to for a little while on www.celticmusicradio.net
