Administrative History

The journal started publishing in 1980 on a quarterly basis. It is today based in Berkeley, California, and appears annually. It was founded by members of the Columbia Anarchist League and was published in Columbia, Missouri, for nearly fifteen years, eventually under the sole editorial control of Jason McQuinn (who initially used the pseudonym “Lev Chernyi”), before briefly moving to New York City in 1995 to be published by members of the Autonomedia collective. The demise of independent distributor Fine Print nearly killed the magazine, necessitating its return to the Columbia collective after just two issues. It remained in Columbia from 1997 to 2006. The magazine accepts no advertising.        ISSN 1044-1387

Custodial History

The material in this collection was assembled from a number of individual collections donated to the Spirit of Revolt project. The decision to remove items from individual collections to construct complete, or near complete, runs of publications was taken to reduce duplications and make the publications more accessible to researchers.
