Guy A. Aldred, 1886 – 1963 was a prominent anarchist-communist, and key member of the Anti-Parliamentary Communist Federation. Born in London, he moved to Glasgow during the first world war where he played a vital role in Glasgow’s’ working class movement. He was the founder, editor and publisher of both Bakunin Press (1906) and The Stickland Press (1939) which published, amongst other periodicals, The Word – a newspaper which was an organ of the United Socialist Movement and a series of pamphlets entitled, “The Word” Library.

The material in this collection was assembled from a number of individual collections donated to the Spirit of Revolt project. The decision to remove items from individual collections to construct complete, or near complete, runs of publications was taken to reduce duplications and make the publications more accessible to researchers.
